A new foundation has been formed to support the West York Area School District.
The Foundation for the West York Area School District held its first event, a charter membership reception, at the end of June. So far, the foundation has 70 charter members.
Emily Clark, executive director of the foundation, said that the organization’s main focus will be to provide financial support to the school district, using money raised to benefit all students, not any particular group.
School district officials will tell the foundation what district needs and priorities are, in order to direct funding where it is needed, she said. The foundation’s first goal is to raise money for technology-enhanced classrooms, she said.
Charter membership will be available until Oct. 31. But if community members are unable to help financially, the foundation will also be looking for volunteers to lend their skills, whether in marketing, graphic design, or other areas.

Northeastern foundation: A new foundation has been formed in the Northeastern School District.
The Northeastern Foundation was formed through the joining of the Bobcat Foundation and Northeastern Scholarship Foundation, according to the district.
Diane Wolf, acting president, said the organizations joined forces to help ensure the long-term sustainability of both groups. And, those involved felt there would be more power in one group than two.
The new foundation will have a scholarship component as well as a component to help fund needs in the district, like technology or arts, for example.
